In this survey you will be recording the early bumblebee and other pollinators in your Naturespace. You are more likely to see bees if you have flowering plants in your Naturespace. Please complete this survey when early bumblebees are most active, between April and July. This survey will take about ten minutes in total and will give you an idea of how the bees in your Naturespace are doing. You can take our quiz to practise your identification skills!
Bees are more active when it is warm and sunny, so we recommend that you complete the survey when the weather is clear and the temperature is above 11°C. This survey follows the same structure as the small tortoiseshell butterfly survey, so you can complete the butterfly survey at the same time if you want to.
Take lots of photos during the survey, so you can take a closer look or share them with us.
If you didn’t find any evidence of early bumblebees, it is still useful for us to know this result so we can build up a clearer picture of where early bumblebees do and don’t live. If you would like to find out how to do more for early bumblebees in your Naturespace check out the early bumblebee species page.
