Bees & butterflies for beginners

Event Date: Tuesday 13th August 2019

Location: The Stray Play Park, Tadpole Garden Village, Swindon, SN25 2TZ
Would you like to learn about the bees and butterflies you can find in your local area? Join us for a Naturehood bee and butterfly walk!

Join us for a family-friendly bee and butterfly guided walk where you can learn more about the pollinators in Tadpole Garden Village meadows.

Chelsea and Nick from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust will be on hand to guide us through, help us identify common butterfly and bee species, and provide advice on pollinator-friendly gardening.

Everyone who attends will be given a free Naturehood spotter's guide so that they can explore their space at home and identify the bees and butterflies they might find.

This event is free (funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund) but all attendees are required to register/RSVP through Eventbrite. If you can no longer attend after you registered please let us know by emailing Jo (email address below), so we can offer your space to someone else - thank you.

Pollinators Picnic - Penhill

Location: Penhill Community Orchard, Leigh Road, Penhill, Swindon, SN2 5DE
Join us for a celebration of pollinating insects and the foods that would not exist without them!

Join us for a family friendly, educational get together where we will celebrate the very important role of pollinating insects and our favourite food that would not exist without them.

  • Bring a blanket, picnic and your friends and family!
  • Build a bug hotel for your garden/balcony
  • Learn about pollinator friendly gardening
  • Learn how to identify common garden insects
  • An opportunity to win a beautiful flower planter
  • Free wildflower seeds

This event is free (funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund), but all attendees are required to register/RSVP through Eventbrite.

Pond dipping - Tadpole Garden Village

A morning filled with fun nature-themed activities!

Would you like to learn about animal species that live in ponds? Join us for a family friendly pond dipping session.

All equipment and ID guides will be provided. Please wear waterproof shoes or wellies.

Penhill Summer Adventure

Location: Seven Fields Primary School, 17 Leigh Road, Penhill, Swindon, SN2 5DE
A morning filled with fun nature-themed activities!
This event is part of Naturehood series. Join us for a family-friendly session and learn about the wildlife found in Penhill and in our gardens. We will undertake simple wildlife surveys and play fun and interactive nature themed games. The activities will take place in Penhill Orchard and Seven Fields Local Nature Reserve.

This event is free (funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund) but all attendees are required to register/RSVP through Eventbrite. If you can no longer attend after you registered please let us know by emailing Jo (email address below) so we can offer your space to someone else - thank you.

Come along to learn more about Naturehood and how you can help local wildlife. Try your hand at pond dipping, learn about pollinators and complete the nature trail. Come down for an hour or the whole day, picnics welcome.

Tickets are free, but spaces are limited.

By selecting one or more of our five priority species, you can help us find out more about their life cycle and how their habitat affects them, and access specific activities to help you support that species.
This feed shows you the activities you can complete next. We’ll remind you when there’s an activity coming up for you to complete.
We need to know as much as possible about your Naturespace – it could be your garden, a window box, an area of your school grounds or even a public space like a park. To fully take part in Naturehood you’ll need to work through the four stages in this section.
If you’ve taken any of the Naturehood actions since setting up your Naturespace, record them here. Please click on the ‘Tell us’ button next to the relevant action icon.
If you belong to one of our designated Naturehoods, a map of the area will appear here and you will view data specific to your Naturehood. Otherwise you will be assigned to the “Global” Naturehood and will view data from across the UK.
If you manage to get a great photo of one of our five priority species within your Naturespace, you can tell us about it and upload images here.
